Odyssey of the Seas: Coastal Kitchen

When you stay in a suite on Odyssey of.the Seas, you get access to a exclusive restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner each day.  The menu is similar to the main dining room menu in that there are "classic" items each night that never change such as caesar salad, shrimp cocktail, roasted chicken and grilled salmon. And then there are items that are "specials" for that evening.  We tried this place for our first dinner onboard.

Started with buratta.

If you have never had this, it is like a giant puff of creamy, fresh mozzarella.  You cut into it and spread the cheese onto toasts.
Here the also has a great tasting pesto along with diced tomato and basil.  It was topped with a slight thick balsamic. You could add as much or as little of the condiments as you wanted.  The cheese was a little cold. Normally buratta is served at room temperature.  As the cheese warmed up, the flavor improved.  It was such a large portion.  We probably should have gotten one to share but didn't realize how large it was going to be.

Next was a smokey tomato soup.

This had great hints of smoke but needed more tomato flavor. I liked the creamy mozzarella bits.

Also ordered the french onion soup.

The broth was tasty but not as savory as other onion soups we have had.

Next was a shrimp cocktail. The shrimp needed larger than I expected.
Very fresh tasting.   The cocktail sauce has a good amount of vinegar but needed more balance from tomatoes.

Also tried the crispy pork belly.

This was my favorite bite of the night.  Perfectly rendered with a super crisp fat cap. Succulent - especially with the pan sauce.

For entrees we had the grilled filet mignon and the grilled Branzino.  Both huge portions!!!

The beef was perfectly medium rare.  And the fish also cooked very well. It was moist and simply seasoned.  Our only "issue" was these portions werw both so huge.  I guess it would be a problem if you left a restaurant hungry.  But we couldn't finish these.  Really delicious but all the portions sizes here are huge.  We will know for the next time.
