QUICK BITE: Banana Preserves?



On a recent trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic at the Casa de Campo resort I came across this at the breakfast buffet.  The typical jellies and preserves you see near the toast. bagels and pastries are strawberry, raspberry or maybe guava.   I have occasionally seen a lemon curd which has been very tart and tasty.  Had never seen banana until this resort.



The consistency was custardy and smooth - almost like a lip balm.  The taste was extremely sweet and masked the little banana flavor there was.  I wouldn't recommend this on toast.  Maybe it would be good as an ice cream topping if it was heated and made to be sauce-like.  Even then, you would have to supplement it with some fresh bananas.
