Sometimes reality exceeds your expectations. That was the case with the buffet today on our last aea day. It was themed as a Mediterranean Extravaganza. I have been on other cruises where the buffet is themed, but the execution is sloppy. For example we were on the NCL Encore and there was a "seafood night# in the buffet. Sounded wonderful. Except almost all the offerings were shrimp dishes. Peel and eat shrimp. Shrimp scampi. Shrimp with pasta. You get the idea. Nothing against shrimp, but there are other types of seafood. So I was being cautiously optimistic with this themed lunch buffet on Celebrity Apex. What game me some hope is that this cruise line has its heritage in Greece. Would that make a difference? The answer.is a resounding "yes".
Where to start? How about some of the best steamed mussels I have ever had.
These were in a creamy garlic and wine sauce. Tender, succulent mussels with such a complimentary sauce.
Lots of other dishes including make your own gyros with either lamb or chicken.
Souvlaki. Grilled fish. Meats. Cheeses. And wonderful desserts. Having just spent a few days in Greece before this cruise, it reminded me of so many of the foods we had seen.
