Dinners on Carnival Magic

Cruises always have a great variety of dishes you can try.   And the best thing?  If you don't like something, you can order something else.  I usually find the best items on the starter portion of the menu and always order at least a couple. Some items from the last two nights.

I always find the mushroom soup on a ship is so tasty.  This one didn't disappoint.

Creamy broth with a beefy mushroom flavor.  Topped with some crispy onions which was nice for some texture. It wasn't the best mushroom soup I have ever had.  That award goes to Celebrity for their mushroom cappuccino.

The spinach salad was very good.  Creamy blue cheese dressing with some crunchy walnuts.

And a shrimp cocktail.

I usually don't get shrimp cocktail since they have usually been very small shrimp and often mealy. Not this time. Medium shrimp served with a slightly spicy sauce.

This is the spaghetti carbonara.

While it could have been hotter, the flavors was spot on. Some smoky bacon and creamy sauce. Well done.

The grilled sea bass was okay. Not as good as the mahi mahi from the other night.

For another night I tried the meatball starter.

Three medium meatballs that were packed with flavor. Just enough breadcrumbs to hold them together.  And a chunky marina with a bit of heat.

The fried chicken was okay.  The thigh was so much better than the breast which was overcooked.  The mashed potato was such a small amount it reminded me of the serving size of the same dish at Q-Sine on Celebrity Summit.

The grilled Barramundi was a nicely cooked piece of fish.   Could have used a bit more seasoning for my taste.

And for that meal, we had dessert.

Bitter and Blanc which is essentially a cinnamon sugar bread pudding with a warm vanilla sauce.

You make a small hole in the top and pour the sauce.

Very well done!  Crunchy.  Loads of cinnamon flavor.  And that warm vanilla sauce.  As my father in law has told me, it is all about the sauce!!

Also had Carnival signature Chocolate Melting Cake.  These are best when they are still liquidy which this one wasn't. Cooked more to a medium. Still tasty with some vanilla ice cream.
